5 out of 5 stars Former Windows user...   September 3, 2010
Emma Kuisma (Edinburgh, UK)
After buying my Macbook Pro 13', I downloaded the trial editions of both Office 2008 and iWork before purchasing one, and here are the reasons why I decided to go for Microsoft Office: 1.) Having just learned all the ropes for Microsoft Office 2003 before I switched to a macbook pro, I didn't really want to take the time to learn iWork. 2.) As a student, Microsoft Office's notebook view in Word is unlike anything iWork had. 3.) Although iWork seemed simpler, I found that it was much easier to perform simple tasks with Microsoft Office.

So far I haven't come up with any compatibility issues, and the programs are great. No crashes or malfunctions. I guess the true test will come this month when I start university, and file sharing becomes more of an every day event! I would definitely recommend this product to those who aren't ready to learn iWork, and want to stick with the familiar Microsoft Office interface. Like I said, I upgraded from Office 2003 so I can't say how this compares to Office 2010 or newer versions, but it sure beats 2003 by a long shot! There's nothing that I'm really missing in the interface of the programs, so they fit my needs perfectly.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good really   September 3, 2010
Nick Flynn (Devon, UK)
After 20 plus years with PCs, I took the plunge and migrated to Mac ... One of the qualms I originally had was migrating all of the office based work from PC to Mac. I did try iWorks 09 as a trial, but did not really like it, not business focused enough for me.

Having read the variable reviews for Office for Mac 2008 I was a little unsure as to going down the MS route and was finally persuaded by the offer of a free upgrade to 2011 later this year.

Install was easy, it did the normal upgrade search and basically downloaded a later version, but all in all I guess install took 30 minutes (and that included picking up my mail account settings from Apple's Mail program.

The one area that I was worried about was Entourage, I had heard that it was not very good, but after sussing out how to import my mail items from Mail and the contacts from Address book (Export as VCards from Address book ... save to Desktop ... open Entourage and the Address Book tab & drag and drop) ... all was OK, There doesn't appear to a way to import from iCal into Entourage, but as I had only flirted with iCal it wasn't a problem to me.

I moved from PC based Office 2003 so the interfaces were all pretty new to me but took no time at all to get up to speed. All of the usual suspects are there, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and so far, everything that I've imported from my PC works fine.

I'm pretty happy so far, no glitches, freezes, or lack of functionality (having said that, I never really used many of the more advanced features of the above programs).

For the price, the impending upgrade, and the hassle free start I would happily recommend Office 2008 for Mac. NB, I don't know if this makes a difference, but I'm using the latest Mac OS and all updates are installed.

5 out of 5 stars Office 2008 for Max   September 2, 2010
Dorothy J. Fitzpatrick (Surrey, England)
I had been worried about getting this product because I have read that people had difficulties with it. I have found it to be great - no problems at all and although a bit more like Pages than Word in parts - still much easier to use. I also downloaded it with no problems at all.

4 out of 5 stars Worth the leap of faith!   August 30, 2010
KJD (West Midlands, England)
I read the reviews, and was fairly convinced that it was worth going for. I own iWorks, which is a great package, but when you are used to MS Office and most of your documents are in this format, it is difficult to make the break. I'm glad I purchased this from Amazon. It came very quickly (Prime) and in perfect condition. It loaded simply and effortlessly. So far I have used PowerPoint, Excel and word. The combination of the familiarity of MS Office with my iMac is like having the best of both worlds!!

3 out of 5 stars Why do Amazon use the Post Office?   August 17, 2010

Ordered this to install on new Macbook I got as part of same order. Ordered friday afternoon, Mac arrived early Saturday morning (9am). Waited in all day for this software to arrive, as it was meant to - by 1pm. Despite a few calls to Amazon Customer Services who assured me it would definitely arrive, it turned up 4 days later. By this stage, I had wasted a day sat in expecting the delivery in the specified delivery timeframe. In fairness, Amazon refunded my delivery charges, but that was hardly the point. My weekends are precious to me... more precious than 8.99 delivery costs. If I had known the delivery wopuld have taken so long I would have just walked in to PC World, bought a copy and then had the rest of the day free! Amazon should ditch Post Office as their deliverer and get someone that meets expectations.

The product itself.... installed in seconds, no issues.
