essex researcher
after researching my family for a number of years usind a Broderbund product, i decided it was time to update and purchased FTM 2008, the recent update to FTM 2010 DELUXE version was worth the move, the added function update is worth the money spent.
shame i can't benefit from the free Ancestry membership as i already subscribe.

Great buy! I previously had FTM 2005 so when I upgraded my PC I had to upgrade my FTM and I'm so glad I did. There is so much you can do on it and although initially it was all abit daunting and quite 'busy', i soon started to grasp my way around the program. I'm still finding out new things to do on it even now. Would deffinatley reccommend it to a friend. :-)

As a fan of FTM I am well pleased but the Ancestry connection is heavily loaded towards US data - dont bother with the international membership unless you need American info (the Australian data is pathetically meagre). Also make sure that you anticipate the renewal date for your membership that Ancestry will renew automatically at full price (talk to them - its negotiable)

One of the industry leaders, Family Tree Maker 2010 Deluxe Edition builds on previous editions and is, apparently, the No.1 selling programme of its type.
Its very comprehensive and yet easy enough to install. The makers claim its suitable for beginners and advanced users. I assume they are referring to skills in researching family trees 'cause I don't think the software is that easy to use.
But, with this kind of programme you get more from it the more you use it and the more effort you put in.
My wife has just started researching her family and has been using the software on and off for a few weeks now.
Early days but she quite likes it but isn't sure she has the time to really learn it.
And I guess that's the point - a good programme if you know what you are doing genealogy wise and have the time to learn the software.
Still, its a very tempting price ....
